barbie has the mumps

Hey, remember a few years back when Mattel changed Barbie? Made her more life-like and realistic? Great hurrahs went up to the toy company, who was making Barbie more realistic to younger generations, betting body image, etc. It was a very good idea. But.....

They changed her face.

I have no idea when the de-facing (ha! I made ze pun!) happened - I remember vaguely when the round of new jokes went around about Barbie not falling on her face anymore because she was better proportioned, but her face?

R has a ballerina Barbie. Barbie looks like she's suffering from water retention. And she doesn't look special anymore. She looks haggard and old and.... puffy.

Has Barbie been on a bender?

So are you saying she needs some barbie botox? A lift? A tuck? A little plastic for her... umm... plastic? No barbies here yet but I just know they are around the corner (I'll bet ya it will be my MIL that starts that ball rollin').

Barbies are a [thankfully] distant memory here!My girls played with them but I never liked them. Seemed like they reenforced the dumb blonde cliche, and made important all the things that I thought were not. I doubt Liz's boys will ever play with her, and the lone granddaughter is into so much, and out of the TV bombardment loop that I'm daring to hope she has a shot at making it through childhood "Barbieless!"

Ha! That is funny! Maybe she had fat pockets surgically implanted in her cheeks. Like the ones everybody on "extreme makeover" got removed. Why haven't they come out with nip/tuck barbie yet?

When did they do the changeover? I'll have to inspect the Barbie I bought for a song when KB Toys was going out of business.

I remember when I had Ballerina Barbie!!
