domesticity redux

The dog is being all sweet to me today.

Hmph. He'd better be. I almost had his furry pelt last night, after the faithless hound ate all my hanging-to-dry pasta. Shrimp in lemon garlic sauce is much less spectacular with regular spaghetti.

Lately I've been getting into a cooking and baking thing - this doesn't happen all the time, as my missing-sweets husband will sadly tell you - and dragging out old recipes and hunting for new ones to try.

(Oh, Joke, dude? Missing your recipes. Reminder to self: Must make Shredded Granny Pants soon.)

I have on the desk in front of me a lovely mimeographed map. It's actually a copy of the one that the school board gave out to their drivers, so I'm relatively easy about heading out into the wilderness this afternoon. And B was kind enough to highlight the way and go over each turn, so we'll find him.

And then when we get home maybe I'll try to make pasta again. Hmph.

And the dog will stay in his kennel.

I'm new to your blog, but I really love it. I live in a little college city/town, but I love the country reading your posts always makes me feel like I'm in the woods!

YOU MAKE YOUR OWN PASTA? Would you like to adopt me, my partner, our three cats, one dog, and due in May baby?

Yes...store pasta has the texture of glue when compared to the stuff you make yourself.

Hey quick question regarding making your own pasta do you use a pasta rolling machine to cut it or do you do it by hand? And if you use one of those machines (like mine) - what is the thinnest you make it - we have fights over trying to get it as thin as possible and I think we might be fighting up hill (or maybe my recipe for pasta SUCKS)

whoops - didn't mean to clog up the ol' comments! and BAD DOG!

I meant your dog, not me that was being bad.

AND there I go again, cloggin' up the ol' comments!

These hounds! They worm their way into our hearts, & then get away with the most outrageous things!!

Good luck with the pasta!

No, my pasta machine bit the dust awhile ago, so I'm doing it by hand. Nice arm muscles workout.

I think I'm going to hint to husband that it might be a nice thing to get under the tree..

But when I had one the thinnnest I ever got was two clicks from the bottom. If I went too thin, it cooked too quickly and was mush (no matter that all the recipes say 'pull until translucent')

snort.

And not to sound incredulous, but why aren't some of you making your own too? It's relatively easy.

Umm, I'm not making my own pasta did it for me?? And almost certainly if a household pet ate it all after I'd put in the effort it is very likely I would NEVER try it again. Out of pique.

I have never made it by hand.

I am amazed by you!

You rock.

Wow, Jess. Your own pasta. And I've been meaning to tell you that your banner is gorgeous and I love the talking heads reference.

Thanks actually for tagging me -- I was a meme virgin before you. Could you tell?

Whole lot of nothing going on

Last week, I got covid. For the third time, and this one was unpleasant in ways that I don't really want to talk about. (Life tip: NO ...
