back in the eighties

Have you ever noticed the television stations play old movies on the weekends?

One network seems to own the rights to Jaws and plays it over and over and over....

This weekend seems to be the Beverly Hills Cop series retrospective. Every time B turns on the tv there's the heh-heh-heh-heh of Eddie Murphy's character.

I don't remember these movies. The theme song and a couple of the characters, yes, but the movies, no.

And I frankly don't understand the pull. B has been perched on the sofa for most of the afternoon, exclaiming over the good parts and laughing. A lot.

While I ponder the ridiculousness of a Detroit cop going after bad guys in Beverly Hills (jurisdiction? Has no one heard of jurisdiction?) and wondering why all the really bad guys

have English accents.

So not like real life. And funnier than some of the hairstyles in the films.

Although not, by a long shot, more fun than the shoulder pads!

Ugh, the 80's. An aberration. I think maybe the uncoolest decade.

Hahahaha. Aaahhh, the 80's. The most embarrassing decade of the 20th century. A clash of budding style and synthasizer music set in with wanna be rebels feeding off the success of earlier revolutions.

Personally, the only movie from the 80s that I can watch repeatedly is The Breakfast Club... or A Christmas Story (in the winter).

I watched Pretty In Pink last night. Oh god how I loved that movie the first time I saw it (1986). I was completely in love with Andrew McCarthy. I thought he was the best actor in the world, and Molly Ringwald the best actress, and that was the BEST movie. Better even than 16 Candles (1984).

I was so deluded.

16 Candles was MUCH better.

Even though I don't like those movies either I sometimes wish I had time to just sit and watch one. Soon I hope.

Nothing at all like those shoulder pads. I had AWFUL hair. Bright cardinal red and teased up into a bird look. Just hideous.

Wow. I keep seeing a lot of blog posts about '80s movies. Yeah, they are funny to watch now, but I remember how I used to think they were great, or the funniest thing I ever saw. Now if I sit and watch one, it will only be to watch one particular scene.

Back to the Future. There was a decent '80s movie. :)

Re biting your tongue (previous post). I'm not good at that. I'm good up to a certain point... and then I'm not. If I ever have a daughter-in-law bringing up MY grandchildren... oh dear. Must try harder.

Mhnnghn. Hmmgmng.

They played Mannequin by us the other night. I forgot how much I love that movie! Kim Cattral looks so YOUNG. Sarge mocked me for watching it and told me he'd only stay long enough to eat with me (what? sometimes we eat on the couch) but wound up staying for the whole thing. We felt like kids again.

A couple of big blows
