waiting for Beryl

We're supposed to get hit with the tail of Beryl tonight - a crapload of wind and some rain.

This makes shopping and errands fun - along with the 'Chicken Little' shoppers (The sky is falling! Quick, buy every can of soup the store has!) and the Duck and Cover boys at the hardware store (Ayup. Gonna have a little wind. Better tie down the tractor.) the bank's computer system went out and we were back in the land of it-takes-twenty-five-minutes-to-make-a-withdrawal.

Since we couldn't stock up on soup (I kid!) we drove over to a local produce stand and bought some really nice corn and blueberries, dodging comments about why on earth we were out - didn't we know there was a storm a'coming?

The weather was grey but not nasty yet. We took the scenic route back and watched the rain come in over the ocean. By the time we got home it was drumming rain and blowing hard - and it's been doing that pretty constantly since then. The power has flickered a few times, but nothing more than a blip - hardly worth noting.
---------------------------
THAT'S IT? That was the storm? It looks like Beryl decided to unleash her (dying) wrath on Newfoundland and pass over Nova S - the night tonight is rain drizzled and chilly, but hardly worth a cart full of Campbell's creamed whatever.

Besides, what does one DO with that much soup?

Great that it missed you. We live in Blizzard Country. At the first storm warning of the season, the grocery stores get wiped out of toilet paper (sorry for the bad pun) and bottled water. By the 3rd storm warning, no one even goes out anymore. Every so often, there is a surprise huge dumping of snow that means we are banging on neighbors' doors for milk, eggs and other daily necessities. But we have learned; we buy toilet paper in 36-roll cases as a normal event. In fact, we buy lots of stuff by the case. It's so much cheaper.

And yes; I have never understood what people do with the crappy, salty, dreadful Campbell's soup! Ew.

Break out the old Jane Fonda workout tapes and use the soup cans for hand weights! That's the best use I can possibly think of...

Oh, and the tying down the tractor comment is priceless! :)

They do that here, too. "Storm's coming! We're all gonna DIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEE!!! Buy all the bread and milk you can carry!!!! Because we're all gonna DIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEE!!!!"

Drives. Me. Nuts.

We didn't even get any rain from that storm.

So, if the power is out and you have no gas stove, or you perhaps only have an electric can opener, what are you going to do with all of that soup? Not you of course J but I'm sure there is someone out there stockpiled with soup and have those exact cicumstances.

Josi - 'Zactly. I have this nightmarish vision of someone running a cigarette lighter flame under an opened can of soup - yuck.

Or even worse, eating it cold with a spoon.

Glurp.

Whole lot of nothing going on

Last week, I got covid. For the third time, and this one was unpleasant in ways that I don't really want to talk about. (Life tip: NO ...
