first day: grade one

He was so excited he was up, dressed, and hunting out his shoes at six-forty a.m, impervious to his father's yawning 'You know, the bus won't be here for another hour and thirty-five minutes.'
But it was a new! day! and sleeping in was not an option.

Oh my big lovely boy.

You will have to remind him of this when, on the first day of high school, he does NOT want to get out of bed!

(I have a similar tale from my childhood!)

In another week or two, you'll be dragging him out of bed. Enjoy this while you can.

Ya we were dressed by 6:15 on day one of grade 2 yesterday ... we'll see how long this lasts. But makes my heart burst just the same.

I wish we could bottle that enthusiasm - the kind that has them popping out of bed at 6am on weekends - and save it for the days when all you get out of them is a monosyllabic grunt. In fact, scratch that - bottle it and drink it ourselves!

Nice, I wish I had that problem. My guy was scared to death of grade 2 (he was okay with grade 1 cause he didn't know what to expect). But he enjoyed his day and seems okay.

Too bad you can't bank all that enthusiasm until they get to high school. It might help to scrape them out of bed so they can get to first period geometry! Meanwhile---enjoy it, and him!

What a cutie.

I just love your post about picking the kids up after work. You write SO well. Mine are all big now but you brought it all back.
