meandering through my head

Upstairs, the kids are falling into sleep. Here, the woodstove crackles and the dog sighs and shifts position in the kitchen. The tv is set low; I'm scrolling cooking shows.

The cat is licking his paws and looking pleased with himself.

Really? Fresh dill in seafood chowder?

Tomorrow the two go back to school. I'm getting smarter - I made both of them find mittens and hats earlier so I don't have to go through that tomorrow, and C has his monthly milk money tucked away in his pack.

I should really make more gingerbread....

We have a gas fireplace, and while there are times I don't miss having a wood stove, I do admit missing that crackle noise. Especially with cherry or apple wood.

I'm about to put my two girls to bed. They're back to school tomorrow. Luckily, the school people, in their infinite wisdom, dubbed tomorrow Crazy Sock Day, so my children have a reason to get out of bed with alacrity and hustle to school.

I love that 'I got the kids organised the night BEFORE!' feeling. You just feel like such a good mother.

Happy New Year too, in case I haven't already wished you it here!!!
