It's the second time my hair's been cut since Rosey was born. I had it trimmed when she was about three months old, and then....I didn't go back. (Psst: This two-kid thing? Lotta work.)
Rosey is almost 27 months old. I had a lot of hair.
The hairdresser (I tried a new place) was loath at first to begin. I had simple instructions. (I've never been terribly fussy about my hair - it grows back, after all.) I wanted height on top to direct attention to my eyes, and seriously didn't care about the rest of it. Sticky-out bits? Okay. Bangs? Whatever. 'Are you sure?' she said, feinting with the scissors, fussing with the cape, smoothing my bangs down. 'Really sure? That's quite a bit to cut off.'
After a few minutes, I wanted to grab her shears and cut off a hank, just so she'd see that I was serious. I tried to not look irritated and to smile convincingly. 'Sure. Really sure.'
She looked dubious but set to work. I really, really wanted to wait until she was halfway done and then scream 'Oh my GOD, it's too short!!' but decided she'd probably not see the humor in that.
And now instead of long hair to the middle of my back (or the dreaded ponytail set on top of my head) I have a squiggly cap, with side-bangs and movement and enough for me to tuck behind my ears or push forward or whatever I want. It brings out my eyes, de-emphasizes my jaw, and makes me feel pretty.
Today I felt like me.

I need a better hair cut. You have such great hair - there's so much of it and it has body and life. Whereas mine just hangs there like a wet noodle.
I'm glad you love your hair. Do we get to see pictures? Please? Maybe on the board?
Sounds de-lovely. Yes, we want pictures!!
That sounds so great! I am in awe of your bravery (at going short without so much as batting an eye). Oh, and I *so* would have faux-freaked out just to see what the stylist would do. Hee.
Just out of curiosity, when is your daughter's birthday? My little girl is just about 27 months as well. (My son is 4 1/2)
Welcome back as it were.
You're not twirling around and humming tunes from My Fair Lady are you?
-J.
Pictures will be posted as soon as I can get a decent one - I think something's loose in my camera (prob'ly from being dropped a thousand times)and everything is a bit shaky...but I'll get B to take some tonight.
Rosey's birthday is October 16, 2004. Cass's birthday is October 4th, 2001.
I think our kids are pretty close in age!
Joke - Twirling kept to the bare minimum, I promise! Between your comment and SarahLouise's de-lovely, I'm giggling - thanks for the morning laugh!
congratulations on the hair cut. I am in desperate need of a cut myself. my hair is naturally curly, so most styles I like aren't ones I can do. and I'm with stay-at-home mommy. I would totally have done the faux-freak-out.
by the way, you couldn't have told me that two kids are a lot of work before I got pregnant with the second?! :)
When my hair was long and I wanted to go short, NO ONE WOULD DO IT. Every single stylist I went to said that it was too much of a change and that I'd hate it and blame them for it. Thank God I finally heard about Locks of Love and was able to donate it and have done with it. Oy.
Here's to feeling pretty -- congrats. Now you do know they say you're supposed to go for a trim every 6-8 weeks, not every 68 weeks?
Very close in age! My daughter's birthday is Oct 21, 2004. My son is June 12, 2002. :)
Oh pics! We need pics!
I'm impressed though, 27 months and one hair cut. That's a lot of hair!
oh jess... i'm totally in your club. i got my first haircut since stella was 3 months old just a couple of months ago. i did the same as you. went from having hair down to the middle of my back to a faux-hawk. it was a fabulous change! congrats on the new cut! looking forward to pics....
I just had a haircut yesterday and I an attest to the rejuvenating aspects of a new cut. I looked different and I felt different. And sometimes...different is better.
I have had exactly ONE haircut in four years, and it was done by my best friend with her kitchen scissors. I am the pinnacle of low maintenance (or should that be the nadir?). I am, however, thinking a change is in order. But it's so SCARY!
Oops, I commented to the wrong post. But - I would love to see some new photos of the Rosie, as well as new photos of The Do.
Glad to hear Rosie is warbling on cue. 2nd children so frequently delay in communication as their older sibling is talking for them.
Got my hair cut in the summer. It was waistlength and the hairdresser had to chop a huge swathe of it off before she could even wash it as it would not fit in the sink. It's now to just below my shoulders and could do with another trim soon.
Am looking forward to seeing your before and after photos
Photos would be good, you should have got them before the hair-dresser styling wore off though!! Once I've washed and dried it myself it never looks as glam.
Just to be pedantic (Joke) "I Feel Pretty" is West Side Story not my Fair Lady, but if you felt that you could have danced all night then My Fair Lady is for you.
Nice! I'm the same with haircuts- I usually say "surprise me" but make it long enough for a pony tail, but I just found out the place I've been getting my hair cut since I was four closed down. What am I going to do? Eek!
I had mine cut off a while ago. I agree. Mine never looked like they made it look. I am in the minority. I hate my hair short, but cant stand the way it looks growing out. So I am stuck.
We definitely need pics. I know you look gorgeous!
