First thing this morning, I rolled over and put my face into my pillow. Except it wasn't my pillow, (although it was soft) and it smelt like six days of drool and unbrushed teeth. I reared back and heard a tiny giggle.
'I slept with you, Mama. And you didn't wake up!'
Ah yes. It's the Bed Bandit.
Rosey has never been a good sleeper. She would be our Nightime Roamer, the one voted Most Likely To Be Skulking Around At Midnight. She wakes easily and often, and while she most certainly can put herself back to sleep, she often chooses not to.
So Bear and I are never quite sure where she'll be when we wake up. Always with that small crow of knowing she did something we don't totally approve of (B gets tired of tripping over her when she sacks out in the hallway) - always with her blanket. Usually clutching a stuffed rabbit or a fed-up pissed-and-rumpled-whiskers cat. Limbs akimbo, she'll curl up and nod off, happy to be where other people (or cats) are.
Not that she's a terrible person to share the bed with, usually. Because she's not. It's a bit surprising, though, to find that your husband has morphed into a cheery sprite with little bird feet and an inexhaustible pile of stories.
Now, if I could only teach her that Mama is much happier to see someone when they come bearing fresh-brewed coffee....
Oh, and I need to snag that blanket. Blankie must be washed. Today.

I can't sleep with a child in the bed, but you do paint a very charming picture of your Rosey the Bed Bandit.
I was so relieved to get to the end and discover that it wasn't actually Rosie who had neither been wahsed not toothbrushed for 6 days.
Ah, treasure these days, treasure these days. Soon she'll be off to uni and boyfriends and leaving home...
I'm with Stomper Girl, I can't sleep with a child in the bed either. Luckily, your girl is a cute one to wake up to.
My girl still wanders at night and falls asleep (FINALLY) in random locations around the house ... and she'll be TWELVE this year. So yeah. That may not ever stop, with Rosey.
She does NOT come into our bed, however. Which is only fair, seeing as she slept there the first 14 months of her life. The bed is mine now! All mine! Well, and DH's too. I GUESS.
One of mine always used to end up in bed with her grandmother, who complained that the child's feet were rock hard and mostly resting on her kidneys.
Does Rosey have to sit and watch the drier when blankie is in there?
Mary - ABSOLUTELY. Even though there's no window in the door of the dryer.
mine sneaks into my bed nearly every night too. i don't even know when. she climbs over and between us and just goes back to sleep.
she doesn't wander though. she makes a beeline.
My youngest comes to "visit" us almost nightly. I fluctuate between loving it (when he fall back to sleep quickly and barely moves) to hating it (when he coughs/toots in my face and twists himself into a horizontal position between me and my hubby).
